Our Science

Research Focus

The lab works across four related themes, each addressing a different layer of how immune cells behave in the intestine ... from a single cell's internal decisions to their consequences at the tissue and patient level.

Cell Identity & Memory

How immune cells establish a functional identity, hold onto it over time, and what allows that identity to persist (or break down) once the surrounding tissue is inflamed.

Chromatin Regulation of Gene Expression

The internal machinery that turns genes on and off inside immune cells, and how changes to that machinery reshape what a cell can become or do.

Tissue & Disease Context

How local signals from the intestinal environment influence immune cell decisions, with particular attention to chronic inflammation and inflammatory bowel disease.

Human Relevance

Testing whether findings from experimental systems hold up in human tissue by connecting laboratory research back to what is experienced by our patients.

Approach

The lab combines molecular biology, functional genomics, and cell biology with training in tissue pathology, working across experimental model systems and patient-derived material.

  • Epigenomic & transcriptomic profiling
  • Cellular & animal models
  • Human tissue & patient-derived samples
  • Genome-wide computational & statistical analyses
